In a country where freedom of speech is prevalent, you get people protesting all the time. Don't get me wrong, it is good the country allow such avenues of feedback - better than bombing a public venue to make a statement but sometimes it can get too much or too numb or inconvenient. Some protests are routine, like the Protect-Water-Catchment-Protest every Friday evening without fail in front of H&M. It has gotten so routine it is part of the usual landscape now and they co habitat with whichever basking activity that is going on nearby.
And there are impromptu ones like the one below right in the middle of one of the main tram arteries in the city. I had to walk 4 blocks to meet Bits. The peaceful protest in particular is wanting to make us foreigners welcome but at the point I really don't feel the love.
And who can forget the Umbrella Protest in HK and the counter Umbrella Protest also in HK. Our colleagues in HK get to go home earlier every day. So maybe there is some good in it after all but you won't hear Prada agreeing with that as they posted their quarterly earnings which showed a dip in profits and they blame it on the Umbrella Protest.
And yesterday, me and Bits was walking up and down Flinders Station the whole time. We noticed the Protest but we don't know there are two groups of protest going on - protesting each other apparently escalating to fist fights and we were oblivious to it all. Compliments to the police force for keeping it contained and safe. It could also be we two love birds so into each other, a nuclear bomb could have detonate near us or we wouldn't have notice. Take your pick LOL.
When I told Bits about it, he just shrugs it off. Such is the commonality of a Protest these days...
